balance religion & spirituality

On my flight to Phoenix, today I finally started a book I purchased sometime last year. I have a Kindle hoarding issue.

For being a minimalist, hypocrisy rings loud and clear when you look at my unread list.In the first chapter of Breaking Busy, I was struck by this quote: "My granddaddy used to say, 'If the Devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.'"⠀
This hits home for me as lately I've been making a lot of Dua for balance.

Being in the social media business makes it very hard to retain balance. ⠀
It is my goal to seek depth in this life. There is so much in us, in life, in our relationships with people and with Allah that is unexplored. And my argument was that if I stretch myself out, I will stray from my journey towards depth and understanding. But this time, I took a chance.

Through The Dua Journal, I thought I could explore my faith while maintaining my passion for writing, sharing, and building relationships. But lately, I find myself drifting in the never-ending job of creating content. So much content. You see social media has made us into content consuming beasts. If I don't create something for my readers to consume, I will be long forgotten... onwards towards those who can produce at a faster rate. And relevancy is important to me. I want to provide you your spiritual inspiration.

But I don't want to lose balance. (Oh this turbulence is killing me. And the beauty of the horizon never fails to blow my mind.) I digress. So 2 things:

(1) Help me spread the word. I want to be your Religion and Spirituality inspiration account. I want to be your bridge and will carry through. But I'm afraid of: “If the Devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.” Social media is a lot of busywork. How much of it really matters?

(2) Think about this in your own life: “If the Devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.” Don't let busy take the good from you. Please measure and track your time. If Allah asked you right now, how are you spending your time? Will your answer make you proud? Will you have good justification for your choices? ⠀
Bonus: Now DO something about it! 🌷Umeda
