a few seconds to decide
Catching up with the husband after kids went to bed, I once again mentioned how, "I hate more than I should have today." ⠀
⠀
"Why did you do that?" ⠀
⠀
"I don't know. I just kept eating." ⠀
⠀
"Well, you have to stop making decisions you will later regret." ⠀
⠀
I know. I know. I know this. But somethings come so hard to me. You know? Doesn't happen naturally. Regardless of my awareness of what I should do and shouldn't do. What is good and not good. The consequences I risk...⠀
⠀
He mentioned, then, "You have a few seconds to decide. Every time." What you decide in those few seconds are what is getting you. And that's where self-accountability comes in. ⠀
⠀
We can wish, fail, and whine endlessly. We can make dua endlessly. But nothing will keep us in line like our own self-accountability. ⠀
⠀
Nothing will keep us in line like in those few seconds deciding to NOT step into the cycle of 'wish, fail, and whine'. ⠀
⠀
Same applies to your practice of Islam. ⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will remain on your mat to make dua. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds to open up your The Dua Journal. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you won't utter the cuss word. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will not shout to your child. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will not hold on to your husband's flaws and misdemeanor. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will keep focusing on your task rather than checking your notifications. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will turn on an Islamic lecture instead of a vlog, or a Quran recitation instead of hip hop. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will get up and walk. ⠀
⠀
Decide in those few seconds you will choose Allah. ⠀
You will choose health. ⠀
You will choose positivity. ⠀
You will choose balance. ⠀
You will choose what is good. ⠀
You will choose YOU.⠀
